WHAT MUSIC IS TO ME

Ashlee Williams, 4th grade
c. 2004

What is music? That's what you say?
Well, haven't you noticed?
You hear it everyday.

Maybe it's with a song or a dance
If you're sitting down, you'll have to
Eventually move your pants.

Even if you're down with a silly old frown,
In the wink of an eye,
Music can turn your frown upside down.

If you can't fall asleep
And you've counted all of the sheep.
Music can help you, so don't you be shy.
Just go ahead and play a sweet little lullaby.

If you've heard of music, "Whee-hoo!"
But, if you haven't I feel sad for you.

Not all the time music is happy,
Sometimes music is sad.
Like a funeral
When someone you loved has passed.

Music can be different sounds,
Like streams, rivers, or the wind that howls around.

You can make up music in your own spare time -
Uh oh, I forgot to tell you, the song doesn't have to rhyme.

Have you ever noticed sometimes when people are asleep
some may seem to roar, while others just make a peep.
Well, my friends this I cannot ignore
That maybe music can be found in the way that some snore.

There, I've said it and I cannot deny,
I hope this great world of music will never die.

MUSIC IS THE RHYTHM AND THE BEAT
Victor Cordiano, 2nd grade
c. 2004

Music is the rhythm and the beat of things around you.

Like stomping feet,
funny words like bibbidy beat.
Things in the world are very sweet,
like rhythm and the beat of music.

Music is very low and high
like a big guy and a small fly.
There are many ways to make
music all around the world.

Music makes me dance so much
I always dance to it twice.

Music is the rhythm and the beat.
And that is always nice.
