THE FLORIDA MUSIC TRAIN

Who might be interested in the Florida Music Train?

All Floridians
Teachers of Florida history and culture, especially 4th grade and music teachers
Teachers from other places who would like to use the information in the kit. The CD has great source material.

The Florida Music Train is a kit available from the Florida Department of State for $50. It is a wonderful, useful and thoroughly well-done source for music of most of the cultural groups in Florida.

It includes

....... a CD with 23 old (wax cylinder) and new (recording studio) representative pieces

....... a notebook with fine source material and 5 lesson plans

...... a full-color poster of Florida, showing photographs of the persons performing in the CD

...... and more

Also available for download are the session notes for the Florida Music Train session, January 2007, Florida Music Educators Association Conference. The presenters were Martha Stanley, NBCT and Karen Bouton, NBCT. The session shows how one can take the Florida Music Train and expand it for your own needs. The notes also include a long list of web links and an original Orff arrangement of a play song from Florida, perfect for upper elementary grades.

Session notes in .doc format - click to download.
(PS: On Sept. 18th, I could not get this to open when I downloaded it with Firefox.  Internet Explorer worked, however.  This is a new glitch which I don't understand.  Maybe it'll straighten itself out?!)
